Kowarekake no Orgel

Damn! What a way to surprise a guy with a good sob story. I saw some murmurs on /a/ about a short OVA called Kowarekake no Orgel and after a while I decided to check it out and low and behold I was not expecting what I watched. I just figured it was some sweet little moe story about a boy and his android but what I got was something else entirely.

Kowarekake no Orgel is a self published Doujin anime that was released during Comic Market 77 and is a short little story about a sad lonely musician who finds a broken android in a trash pile near a Shrine one rainy day. He picks it up and takes it to a fixer who tells him that it's hopeless to fix. Keiichiro is the sad lonely musician and he is resigned to placing the android in the trash pile. During the night however the android starts working again and Keiichiro awakens in the morning to find the little android making dinner in his kitchen.

For some reason the android doesn't have any memories and she doesn't know what her name is so Keiichiro names her flower after the Sunflower that is in his living room. Keiichiro and flower develop a bond as he teahes her about life and all the things that matter. Keiichiro leaves flower at home one day as he goes and sees his family grave side and we learn that Keiichiro has had a very sad life losing his parents and his younger sister to a traffic accident. Flower learns about his past as a musician and tries to get him to play but Keiichiro is still sad about his prior life and doesn't want to play. Some time passes and flower begins to have issues. After looking though Flower's little diary he learns that Flower's one wish is to visit the sea. Keiichiro set out to fulfill that wish and the two spend Flower's last day sitting by the sea humming a tune that Keiichiro used to play for his younger sister. Flower is happy and Keiichiro takes her back to that same chair in the trash pile and leaves her once again with a sunflower in her lap. We then see Keiichiro listening to the same tune that they hummed on the beach in a little music box as he is getting ready to sing on the sidewalk with his guitar.

Yes I sobbed, not nearly as bad as say Grave of the Fireflies sobbed but I still sobbed. While it's got the moe loli going on it has a nice wonderful little story telling that just hits you out of no where. Expecting nothing substantial but some easy going loli moe and instead getting nailed with a solid story doesn't happen a lot and when it does and works well like this did you feel like you just experienced something good. You need to find this and watch this period, end of story. Oh and this is definitely something that would get your girl to cuddle with you, so if you have a non anime fan S.O. this is a great piece to change their mind with.
