Released with the first DVD of the still airing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime this OVA is a side story from the Manga. Entitled The Blind Alchemist it is an entirely encapsulated episode that finds Ed and Al visiting another Alchemist that they heard of and find out that not all is as it seems.

Ed and Al travel to a city where a blind Alchemist is employed by a rich family and they heard that the alchemist was able to successfully pull off Human Transmutation and they seek him out to learn how he was able to do it. When they find him the find out that indeed he did perform the taboo and in the process he lost his eyes when he tried to being his master's daughter back from the dead. He succeeds in doing so or so Ed and the blind Alchemist think. However, the family is hiding a dirty secret the daughter that is running around with Al who the Blind Alchemist believes is the resurrected daughter he transmuted is actually an adopted girl.

The girl shows Al the real daughter that the blind alchemist transmuted and while she seems to be alive she looks like mummified corpse with perfect hair the little girl isn't surprised and scared of the transmuted human nor in Al being a hollow talking suit of armor which surprises Al. Ed who went looking for Al after he learns that the blind Alchemist will not show him how he successfully transmuted a human no matter how persistent Ed is. The lady of the manor tells Ed that he can go look for Al but he can NOT search the second floor as it's off limits. Ed being Ed of course goes searching the second floor only to find Al the girl and the transmuted human and finds out about the families secret. The family and in fact everyone working and living in the walled off manor keep the secret that the transmutation didn't work from the blind alchemist. With this information at hand Ed and Al take their leave and head off again leaving the family and it's secret behind closed doors.

As a stand alone tail it was good and I'm glad it was an OVA and not an extra episode like what they did with the original series and and a couple little side stories. Since this is included with the first DVD it is hoped that when the series is released in the states it will also be included on the US DVD release as well.

There's no trailer so enjoy the opening credits song while you read the post or something...
