Oh yes, finally a bit more Otaku'ish blogging. This time a Japanese live action movie...not staring Jackie Chan. Telling your friends that there are good Japanese films that don't involve the five or so Japanese/Chinese mainstream Hollywood actors is like telling them that you like anime most of the time. Anyways, the Machine Girl has been on my list of must watch Japanese movies for some time and Netflix finally got around to shipping it to me. Right as I was leaving for Reno. So yet again it had to wait. Finally got a chance to watch it this morning and I'm glad that I did.
So The Machine Girl movie might sound like it's about some cute lil' cyborg girl going about her life right...well it's so far from that. it's a Tokyo Shock movie which means LOTS of blood spraying about. Very B movie like in it's cgi and acting but that's the fun of the movie. The Machine Girl is actually about a school girl out for revenge against the bully that killed her younger brother and his friend. In the process she loses her left arm (but not before it is turned into a Tempura snack along the way.) but before she can be killed she escapes and lands at the doorstop of a family (the brother's friend's parents) where is taken care of. The family teaches the young woman how to fight with out her left arm and while doing that the husband builds the one armed girl a machine gun arm (looks like a Gatling Gun but so isn't) to attach and use on her left arm.

Before the Machine Girl can finish off her revenge plot the family and girl are visited by their enemy and a few Ninjas. Sadly the husband just after finishing the machine gun is killed by the Ninjas but thankfully the girl is able to use the machine gun and is able to take out the Ninjas. The two girls find out where the head bad guys are hiding out at take on the hideout to finish off their revenge plot. Lots of fighting ensues several people die and we get to best damn part of all. THE FREAKING DRILL BRA!!!! Much more fighting ensues and the end.
Of course I left out a good chunk of guts and stuff out but hey if I told you the whole story you wouldn't go out and watch it now would you. The funny thing about this movie is that I actually saw it for sale at Wally World...seriously it was for sale at Wal-Mart of all places. But I wasn't sure I wanted to buy it so I was waiting for it to come from Netflix. I definitely liked the movie but I have a soft spot for B movie gore fests and of course cute Japanese chicks. Of course The Machine Girl had plenty of both. If you don't like either one of those definitely do not watch this movie and even if you think you might like it forget about hollywood budget cgi and F/X and of course a coherent plot. Now I'm just hoping Netflix will get Tokyo Gore Police and The Oneechanbara movies soon.
