To be honest after finishing this off I'm still scratching my head as to what it was that I watched. Was it a horrible nonhappy ending Hentai an over the top funny fanservice show or just a terrible anime with little redeeming value? What ever the case I liked it enough to keep watching every episode in the hope that Kouta would man the hell up and just well give it up already jeez.
Brief Summary: So Kanokon is about a young boy named Kouta caught in a love triangle between two animal spirits. On one hand we have the Fox spirit Chizuru a well endowed female with the sex drive of a teenage boy. On the other hand we have the Wolf spirit Nozomu a petite flat chested loli girl hell bent on keeping Chizuru's mits off poor Kouta so that she can have him to herself. Much fanservice and echhi madness ensues in the chase after poor Kouta. That is pretty much the entire plot to the show. There is a little bit of other plot that gets tossed around willy nilly to spice things up but it's so tossed around it seems like just an after thought. Like the whole battle at the school huge WTF! moment.
My Opinion: I have to admit to the fact that I did enjoy watching this and NOT just for the fanservice. There were some really funny moments and sometimes it was pretty good. The fanservice though was so over the top it was like they tossed the entire project on a Saturn V Rocket and aimed squarely at hitting the moon. You could almost call it the worst Hentai ever with not a single happy ending in sight. So other than the fanservice what does make it worth watching? I'd say the bit players who are more interesting at times than the main cast. The two lil' twins who turn out to be spirit ninjas who fail and fail hard at carrying out their missions to destroy Chizuru. They offer the best of the comic relief.
So would I recommend watching Kanokon? Well a ton of middle school boys and girls can't be wrong. Funny thing is that Kanokon was rated as one of the most liked shows of the season by middle school kids. Yeah that's pretty scary. However, this is definitely not a show for everyone. If you like fanservice, ecchi and a show pretty much devode of any real plot of story then oh hell yeah definitely check this out. You'll have to wait for the DVDs though if you want nipples and more ecchi goodness though. If you don't mind the fanservice and are just looking for something to veg out to and have a good laugh at just how bad it can be it's a pretty good watch and might be worth renting if it ever comes out on DVD. Somehow though I don't think anyone will be picking this up for NA release. Other than that don't even bother.
