Tiger & Bunny

Tiger & Bunny for me was the must watch series of the last couple anime seasons (it ran for 25 episodes) and I was always looking forward to the next episode.  I finished the first "project" last night and I'll be looking forward to the next project in November (I think it's November anyways). When you first hear about the show the name is rather odd but once you start watching the series it all makes since and it turned out to be a run away hit.  Just don't let all the no homo brolust that has infested /a/ turn you off to the series.

I think the trend of BL in recent anime series has convoluted the traditional Japanese comedy due which is actually what the Tiger and Bunny team up is.  And not a budding experimental yaoi relationship what some people would like.  And no the irony of a flamboyantly gay male super hero with flame powers was not lost on me.  Now that we got that all out of the closet lets move on to the rest of the show.

Obviously Tiger & Bunny is a super hero comic book type series were people with super powers (called NEXT -- Noted Entities with eXtraordinary Talents) are employed by a production company to fight crime on a reality TV program called Hero TV.  Each Next super hero has their own signature move, outfit complete with company endorsements (real endorsements as well) and back story.  Each character got their own little back story told during the events of series and I think it all tied in well and made you more interested in the not so main characters.  During the broadcast year the heroes all compete to earn points by saving people and capturing bad guys to be crowned King of the Heroes for the year.  For the most part that storyline falls to the wayside to make room for the more important storyline involving solving "Bunny's" parent's murder and the involvement of the shadow criminal organization called Ouroboros.

That storyline takes up the first half of the series and once the supposed bad guy meets his gruesome and tragic ending the next storyline manifests when it is discovered that the real bad guy is actually the creator of Hero TV and the developer of the Next super heroes branding.  Mr. Maverick is also a Next and is able to change people's memories and turns all the heroes and the entire city against Tiger and the battle to end Mr Maverick's plans to kill off all the heroes to replace them with powered suit androids takes place.

A lot of fans didn't care for the second half but I thought it wasn't a bad way to progress with the story and that it played out well.  Also leaving plenty of room for the second season even if Tiger really should have retired but it just might be more interesting with the I minute Tiger you never know.

You can watch the series streaming on Hulu and few other places (like Viz media) and I would highly recommend it if you like a bit of an off beat comedy adventure action series with super heroes and I'll admit it a bit of overacting.  And as much as I want to just use a hot picture of Blue Rose I'm going to wade my way though all the rest of the "fanservice" to find a good group picture.
