Information on exactly how bad or slightly less bad the job situation is in America is always a moving target. The most publicized figure is the national unemployment rate, which is calculated once a month and has hovered around 9 to 10 percent in the last year. To get that number, the Bureau of Labor Statistics conducts a monthly survey of about 60,000 households.
