"College degree required." That's the gist of one Craigslist ad for a sales-coordinator job in Renton. Click through ads for other office positions and you'll see similar barriers for those who didn't go to college. A Kent company wants an invoicing specialist with a four-year degree in business administration. And a Seattle business is hiring a billing specialist: "Bachelor's degree is preferred." Twenty years ago, employers might not have sought college-educated workers for those jobs. But now, a two- or four-year degree is more than a ticket to a better job and more money.
