Eden of The East : Paradise Lost

Another anime that I watched during my vacation was Eden of The East the Movie II: Paradise Lost which was regulated to the back burner for a while thanks to me reading a few poor reviews. Of course I should have ignored those reviews because as soon as I was finished watching the movie I thought to my self "why did I not watch this sooner, it was much better than the reviews gave it credit for." Well that's what I get I guess. So yeah this review is a bit late to the party.

Also probably not nearly as profound as some other reviews.  No really there are some really profound reviews for the series out there.  This wont be one of those.  Paradise Lost is the final movie and really the final chapter of the Eden of the East story.  This means the questions are answered (well most of them) and the winner of the game is announced.  If you're not up to speed on the story you can read the wiki page for the series here  Eden of the East.  So with that we delve into the end game.

The final movie does what the fans wanted it to do and answered many of the questions that the viewers had since the start.  We finally get to meet Mr. Outside and we learn much about his game and why he chose the people that he did.  We also find out more about Akira's past as he is in search of his past to find out if he is indead the son of the former Prime Minister.  Since he stated that he wanted to become the King of Japan Juiz has been working to accomplish that goal and one way was to claim that Akira is the son of the former Prime Minister.  This finds Akira and Saki back in Japan to answer for those claims.

It also finds them and the rest of the group who founded East of the Eden program accused of being terrorist.  The movie is basically about finding those last pieces of the puzzle to end the game and become the winner.  And to beat Mr. Gov't at his own game.  This requires Akira to steal not only his trailer but that of the Mr. Gov't and go directly to the people who are looking to figure Akira's past as well.. It there that he and Mr. Akira have their heart to heart conversation and after that Akira spends the rest of his money to make a nation wide video call to everyone to basically tell the old generation to give up and hand over control to the new generation so that they can build a new economy.  He then gives every one 1 yen to start building their fortunes.

Mr Outside declares Akira the winner and well to not spoil the ending but he has the last laugh and uses the phone to erase all the last players memories like Akira has done twice now.  The odd thing is that it works on all of them except for Akira go figure.  So yeah a rather interesting ending that many people really didn't like but I thought it held true to the series and I liked it.

There is a lot of interesting things going on during the movie that keeps it moving along.  We get to meat more of the Juiz ladies and all sorts of just random stuff.  It could have been slightly better sure everything could be slightly better but honestly I think the final movie of the Eden of  the East story does the series justice.  It'll probably be a while until FUNimation gets around to releasing the movie on DVD but I definitely urge you if you're a fan of the series to watch it when it does get released.

Check out the trailer for the movie.
