My Favorite Carrera

So the other day while looking for more Japanese Porsche Porn I came across a meet up called the Porsche Central Meet and one of the cars there was a Pink Strosek Speedster.  Surrounding that Porsche were some Anime looking Standies with a plaque that had a bit of English on it.  It said My Favorite Carrera.  So I did a bit of digging using that word and came up with a new favorite Manga that for me is a must read and something that I really wish they would turn into an anime.  That Manga is Kanojo no Carrera (彼女のカレラ) or Her Carrera, My Favorite Carrera.

The Manga is about a young 20-something female Manga Editor who just so happens to inherit a Ruby Stone Red (yeah it looks pink) Porsche 911RS from her father.  Reina doesn't know much about cars much less how awesome of a car that the 911 RS is that she was gifted with.

Reina is a very well endowed young lady who spends time getting to know her new 911RS and grows to enjoy the car lifestyle and from what I've been able to read (17 chapters have been scanlated) has grown rather attached to the 911RS and enjoyment of driving it, but has a bit of bad luck sometimes with the car.

She seems to get in a few car races on the Wangan and even crashes the poor 911RS at one point.  But she has also gotten a few extra friends out of her ordeals at the wheel of the 911RS as well.  I am really enjoying the manga and while I think it would be a great thing to bring to America I just don't see anyone wanting to since it's not moe or the typical manga seller that the kiddies like.

However,  I think now would be a great time for Japan to get a nicely done version out on Anime.  I don't want some lame looking Initial D knock off were the car CGI is awesome but the character animation is just shit.  No this needs to be awesome looking from the start.  After all the artist who does this is also responsible for Silent Mobius just to name one Anime project that Asamiya Kia has worked on.  And with the Loli and School girl fanservice ban going on this would be a great time to toss in some nice adult fanservice as I have to admit that this manga has a pretty healthy amount of bare breasts about.  See it would  be great to bring something like this out at a time like this.  There hasn't been a good car related series out in a while and we can enjoy adult fanservice without worrying about it getting banned.

Since I got interested in it from that initial image I just had to look it up and found a few places were you can read it at but it seems that translation is pretty dead at the moment so the series is halted at the moment at Vol 2 chapter 17 with no outlook on any further releases that I can see.  This kinda sucks as it's still being serialized in Weekly Playboy and has had 17 Vols of the Manga released in Japan.  I might just have to track down some of the goodies though as there are some cars and figures as well as other stuff released for it.

High School of the Dead ANIME!

Yes! While looking around for what's upcoming in the Spring 2010 Anime season I found out that indeed High School of the Dead has finally been green-lit for an Anime adaption. The manga has also been revived from it's year long Hiatus as well. I'm genuinely excited about that as HSotD (official anime page here) is one of my favorite Japanese Manga (it needs to be licensed here so that I can buy it translated...grrr).

If you're not aware of what High School of the Dead is it's your basic zombie horror manga that feature School kids taken on a Zombie army for their survival and what not. That's a very basic plot line of the story. The girls are hot the guns are very well done up and it's just one of those crazy stories that would make a great anime/movie and that's what I thought when I started reading it and now finally I along with everyone else who thought the same thing got our wishes granted. I'll definitely be looking forward to this one when it comes out.

The next chapter of the manga I believe will be out on Mar 9, 2010 no idea when it will be scanlated though but you know I'll be looking for it. UPDATED -- XLG has the scans up look for the last chapter soon...

UPDATE -- New trailer is out for the anime as of TAF2010 ENJOY! I have to say that it does indeed look seriously bad ass and I'm so looking forward to this this in either the summer or fall of 2010.

Shikabane Hime Aka

Don't regret dying or hold on to any attachments as you move onto the other side or you may come back as a corpse. You'll then find yourself in the crosshairs of some hottie undead corpse princess who's sole job is to kill 108 corpse so that she may make her own journey to heaven.

Pretty nifty idea actually and it didn't make all that bad of an anime show either. In fact I'd say it was one of the better shows of the season and Funimation liked it so much that they just had to go and gobble up the licensing rights to it as soon as they could so that they could stream it on YouTube where I finished watching it myself. I've already mentioned the funimation stuff in an earlier post so wont go over that again but Shikabane Hime: Aka is definitely a must watch series that is still continuing as we speak for another 13 episodes as Shikabane Hime: Kuro and if anyone would like to explain to me what in the world Aka and Kuro have to do with the series that would be greatly appreciated. I know the words mean red and black but I don't see how they work in the title other than there is a lot of red and black in the anime. Or could it be some elaborate part 1 and part 2 name scheme?

Whatever the case it doesn't have anything to do with the actual show which is about undead female corpses who are contracted with priests to kill other undead corpses so that the girls can go to heaven once they have killed 108 corpses. That's the plot in a nutshell but of course nothing ever goes as planned and a group of very powerful corpses called the Shichisei who are out to destroy the group of priests and Shikabane Himes (known collectively as the Kougon cult). In the middle of this great battle we have our main players Makina our duel Mac10 welding Hime who is contracted with the pervert priest Keisei and poor everyday average guy Ouri where the majority of the anime focuses on. Ouri has a bad habit of finding his way to the undead corpses with the help of the dead cat from his childhood (does anyone know who or what the cat actually is? Is it a part of the Shichisei group?) and in doing so he learns of the bond between his adoptive brother priest Keisei and Makina leading him to be in the middle and often at odds with the Kougon cult becoming the focal point of the last events of the first 13 episodes. Sadly Keisei dies protecting Ouri and the other orphans at his place and ends up giving Ouri his contract with Makina so that she can finish her goal of killing the Shichisei group (who killed her and her family).

What can I say about Shikabane Hime that countless others haven't already said in order to get you to watch this rather outstanding show other than you can feel good about yourself for watching it though one of Funimation's feeds and not being an evil pirater of the anime fansubs. There is that I guess but honestly this must be seen in high quality on a bigger screen to be enjoyed the most and look forward to the next season already underway and going a bit more towards some extra fanservice as well with an Otaku cosplaying Hime and an even more perverted priest than Keisei was (seriously it's possible). I wonder when funimation will release the series on DVD (and how) and also there isn't any word (that I can find) on a state side manga release either.
