HOTD OVA: Drifters of the Dead

Talk about an awesome guilty pleasure OVA.  Included with the 7th volume of the Highschool of the Dead Manga was an OAD episode that takes the cast of the anime series and sends them to a desolate deserted  island for some hijinks and bare skin.  Didn't have anything to do with the plot, it was just total epic fanservice goodness at it's best.

The gang found a small row boat and head out to sea and after a short time found themselves on a "deserted" island with nothing but the clothes on their backs.  That is until the little girl finds the swimsuit shack.  Well since we have the swimsuit shack might as well change into some ever so small swimsuits and gather some firewood and food for the night.

The girls get to splash about on the beach while the boys have to play hunter gatherer.  The fat kid of course wins by bring back a huge haul of fish that he caught thanks to his "training"  while the other guy fails at gathering anything.

They all gather around and start up a nice little fire to cook the fish and start to chat.  The only problem is that they are burning some leaves that create a hallucinogenic affect on all of the castaways.  This is were the story really gets interesting.  If you are into yuri then you'll definitely like this as the plot goes straight to sexual inuendo a plenty with the girls rubbing up against each other and the Alpha Male and the Sword girl go at it as well.  Turns out no one has any idea what is going on and we find the fat kid hilariously having his way with a broom and the Alpha male fending off some zombie bikini girls as he's still hallucinating.

And that was it as this OAD was only 16 minutes long.  Enough time to make you laugh with some of the quick jokes and then to get you all hot and bothered by the ladies rubbing up and kissing each other.  It's some hot and totally guilty pleasure worthy animation.

If you liked HOTD then of course you'll love the OAD and then you'll probably go nuts when you see the "see you later" bit at the end after the credits.

Highschool of the Dead -- Anime

It seems like it just started but sure enough Highschool of the Dead has finished it's run of 12 episodes already.  In my opinion that was way to fast for this series.  I know there is the OAD coming out some time during the spring of next year February 10, 2011 with the release of the 7th volume of the manga but it's an entirely different story than the series.  All I know is that this was one of the stand out anime series of the summer season and hopefully it'll get it's American DVD release soon since it was licensed before it even aired.

You could have checked Highschool of the Dead out on The Anime Network as it was simulcast but only to paying members and from what I heard it wasn't all that well subbed I also don't know if it was the censored version or the non censored version.  Personally I didn't watch it from them as I didn't want to pay just to watch that series.  I'd rather wait and buy the DVD's (BD's) from Sentai Filmworks when they are released. I just spied some screen caps of the DVD releases and the blacked out scenes have been uncensored for the DVD releases and the DVD menus are looking Fanservice fantastic as well.  It'll be interesting to see if there are any added bonuses on the DVD releases as The Anime Network is showing several extras to the point of being 25 total release either they are expecting a lot of extras or another season.  Rather interesting on their part.

In any case I was just happy to watch one of the most awesome manga that I was reading getting a damn good anime series that kept pretty close to the feel and story line of the manga.  There was lots of sweet zombie killing action.  An epic ton of fanservice and an awesome soundtrack.

If you don't know what Highschool of the dead is you must be living under a rock.  It's your basic zombie outbreak story plot but instead of adults it's mostly high school kids running around killing zombies looking for their parents and just trying to survive and cope with their new world.  There is a lot of zombie cliches but you know what it doesn't matter its still in my opinion a stand out performance in the latest crop of zombie offerings.  [Adult Swim] should pick this up to re-invigorate their anime lineup with something more adult and awesome but you know they wont the bastards.  They'll just keep adding more and more lame ass LAS or Live Action Shit to their line up instead of adding something as awesome as this.  OK I'm done ranting and raving

Hell YA! Finally! After just about every other country has had it licensed for years the Manga for Highschool of the Dead has finally been licensed for sale in the states by Yen Press. Yen Press announced the license at this years Comic-con panel. I can't wait until it shows up on store shelves hopefully sooner than later.

It's kind of funny actually as the authors included a little note for those reading the scanlations to buy the manga when it comes out and now finally I'll have a chance.

Hey! people who read the English version (that made by illegal!).
You guys have to buy legality COOL COMIC when that comic become book!
You can get legality comic book at Amazon.

Of course that also means that the place that I've been getting the scanlations from decided to drop it since it was finally licensed. That means no new chapters until they get bundled into a manga and that's going to be some time before I can find out what happens next. But you know what I'm OK with that since I'll finally be able to have the manga in my dirty little hands.

Of course at the same time we'll also be able to have the anime in our dirty little hands as well since it was licensed before it even started by Sentai Filmworks and is being streamed now (but censored) on Anime Network. I just wonder which one will hit store shelves first. But I'm definitely enjoying the anime which just recently aired the bathroom fanservice chapter. You can check out the opening for the anime below.
