Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder

Here is the final (maybe!) swan song of the Futurama franchise. Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder is the last of the Four direct to DVD Futurama movies. I just finished watching it and to be honest it definitely wasn't the best, if anything it goes straight to the back of the list of the four movies. At least in my opinion it does. There are some good chuckles here and there along with the hidden Easter Eggs and not to spoil the end things do get resolved for once.

What didn't impress me was the boring (compared to the others) intro and lack of really good laughs though out. There was a lot of recycled jokes and sometimes the continuity just didn't seem to work out. I think some of that may be because they will be chopping the movie up into four 30 minute episodes later to be aired on Comedy Central like all the other movies so they tried to get things into each 30 minute section so it might work out better that way who knows.

Knowing futurama I though going into the show that the Green Yonder it was going to have something to do with Solent Green but nope the Green Yonder is actually kind of two separate things really. The green part has to do with the main plot device of the movie called the Green Age. Sort of like a big bang theory really and during the Green Age we have two sides of an evolution the good guys and the bad guys. The good guys save the DNA from all endangered species and the bad guys want to destroy the last remaining good guy. The Yonder part is pretty much the very end of the show as our band of plucky heroes...and Bender find themselves traveling to the unknown by way of a large worm whole. A fitting end for the show really.

So how is the the bad guy going to destroy the good guy well he is going to have Amy's dad make an 18 hole mini(epiclyfreakinghuge)golf course out of an arm of the Milkyway system and to do that Amy's dad is going to destroy the arm and inside that arm section is the last remaining good guy (in the form of an egg) and of course it's up to Fry and his currently mind reading brain (or lack there of) to prevent that from happening. Along the way Lela, Amy, LeBarbra and a band of eco-feminists are also trying to prevent Amy's dad from destroying the arm.

Of course Fry and the gang save the day..world...freaking hell the whole universe really and stupid Zapp still wants to arrest them afterwards. Oh yeah Zapp's in this one as well along with a motley assemblage of the Futurama extended family. Which leads us to the end and I'm not about to ruin it because that would be just to easy...Fry and Lela kiss and tell each other "I love you"...FINALLY! Oh oops.

The DVD will be out soon (Feb 24th) and like last time I really hope there is some great stuff on the disk either case I'll be renting it when I can from Netflix just like every other one and more than likely watching it again (I want to see if it makes more since in the episode form) when it hits Comedy Central.

Futurama: Bender's Game

The Fourth Futurama direct to DVD film will be released on November 4th. Thanks to my handy dandy time portal (ie the Internet) I just finished watching it. As a long time fan of Futurama I of course have to tell you that this is the best thing since sliced bread. Bender's Game is more of the same antics from or lovable cast of main characters with the villain being Mom and her dimwit boys this time around.

The plot of this film is simple Mom is doing what all good oil companies do and throttling the supply of dark matter, jacking the price of fuel to an all time high. We learn that the professor is the one responsible for making dark matter a viable source of fuel by developing a crystal that reacts to all the dark matter causing it turn into fuel. He also creates an anti-dark matter crystal as well which when joined with the other crystal will destroy each other rendering the dark matter worthless. So they hatch a plan to destroy the crystals in order to make dark matter worthless and destroy mom's control over fuel. All this time Bender has been learning to play Dungeons and Dragons with the kids and ends up going insane believing that his fantasy world is real.

Our merry band of misfits (minus one Bender as he's taking a nice trip to the spa) takes off to destroy the crystals and ends up discovering that mom hasn't been mining dark matter but in fact all the dark matter turns out to be from captured Niblonians who have been caged and force fed chicken to farm dark matter. That's surprise one. In the process of of trying to destroy the crystal something happens and everyone is transported to a real Dungeon and Dragons fantasy land that is also hijacked from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Lots of laughs and adventuring latter the final battle for the crystal takes place at Mom's dungeon and we learn of the biggest secret of all and I'm not going to tell you. This time though Mom wins and collects the anti-dark matter crystal sending everyone back to the real world. However back in the real world the good guys still have the crystal and because of the big secret I can't tell you how that all ends but rest assured the good guys win.

I believe while this was better than the second Futurama movie it still isn't nearly as good as the first one was. The intro was pretty standered this time but had a yellow submarine short that followed which was pretty funny. I have this on my Netflix queue at the number one spot so cross your fingers that I get it when it's released (I don't see another dead space release happening actually) but I'm not holding my breath. I just want to see what else is on the DVD because they usually have some good extras on the DVDs. Anyways I also highly recommend you rent or even buy this one if you are even remotely a fan of Futurama. Good stuff.

Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs

Futurama: Beast with a Billion Backs is the second of the four direct to DVD Futurama movies. It is scheduled to be released on June 24th. However, I was able to get a sneak peak earlier this week and I just have to say that you should definitely run not walk to get a copy for yourself.

Brief Summary: We find our plucky little team of go getters and space explorers right were we left them after the first movie with a nice big rip in space. Fry gets a girlfriend (who isn't Lilla...shocker) who turns out to like having several boyfriends at once. Kif and Amy get married (I think) Bender looks for the League of Robots after getting his poor butt blasted and the rest of the gang is up to the same old tricks as they've always been up to. Earth of course attacks the rip in space because well that's what President Nixon and Zapp do to things they don't understand. Of course since it is Zapp the attack goes bad killing poor Kif as a result. We find Fry, not happy at all sharing his girlfriend with five other guys, going through the rip in space to be alone to himself.

But he's not alone. Turns out there is a huge beast on the other side who just wants to get freaky with all of humanity. The beast attacks earth with Fry in tow. Soon all of humanity is enslaved (at the neck) minus Lilla who finally finds out what the beast is after. So the beast releases humanity and begins a courtship of such. Finally humanity joins the beast on the other side leaving Earth to the robots. This doesn't sit to well with Bender of course and he attacks the beast on the other side dragging him to earth ending up releasing all of humanity back to Earth minus one person, Fry's ex-girlfriend. And that's all I can remember at the moment and anything else would just spoil to much of the movie.

My Opinion: Oh my gosh I've missed Futurama and love these DVD movies. I thought there was only going to be three but I guess after looking at some other information there is actually four. We will get a sneak peak at the last two movies on the DVD release along with a bunch of other fun stuff. Rent this, buy this, steal this whatever you do if you even passably like Futurama watch this movie. I'll be getting it on Netflix as soon as I can to check out the extras on the DVDs of course. Some people have reviewed this and said that it's not as good or as funny as the last movie or the seasons but screw them I was laughing a lot during this movie and I fully enjoyed it and I think some people forgot that futurama wasn't all slap stick all the time either.
