Yeah that only took what like a couple years to be finally subbed by someone and right on the heels of just being able to just watch it on the DVD release from FUNimation. But knowing how long it's going to take Netflix to get me the damn disk I watched the OVA last night anyways. Definitely wasn't the best video quality either so I'll be checking it out again when I get the disk from lamo Netflix. The good thing about the OVA that was missing on the series is the comedy this a pure comedy OVA episode that pokes fun at a lot of things.
The OVA is a two part episode the first part finds the majority of the cast at a high school that's right it's one of those new kid on the block beats up the school bullies wins the hearts of the girls and has to face the big head honcho bully all while the school admin is plotting something else entirely. It's pretty funny lots of typical action and adventure Toa is the girl in love Howlingstar is the new kid on the block and it's all just a fun little adventure. It also turns out to just be a movie....wait what?
So the second part finds the entire cast caught up in a horrible stormy night in an abandoned hotel. During the night an experimental project that had been offline decided to work when it was hit by lightening. The experimental project did one thing. It changed all of the Dragons' personalities and comedy happened. It pretty much flipped their personalities so the typically EMO Dragons Gio and Widow are cracking Jokes (very bad ones at that) The old man develops an attitude while the normally spirited Howlingstar is shaking in his boots under a table afraid of the thunder. The best though is the switch between Garnet and Machina, Machina turns into a drill instructor screaming at Garnet to jump rope faster and higher and well since we all Dragonauts is more like boobonauts you can see where that went. Toa does a turn as an overdose of Moe cuteness killing Jin with the cute in her little cat girl outfit. So just like the regular series there is a good helping of fanservice.
Wanting to put an end to this the Dragon controllers all head out to destroy the machine responsible. And all is fixed even though Jin wants Toa to keep doing the Moe cuteness at the end. Lots of funny stuff to keep you entertained and to be honest it did make the entire rest of the series just a little bit better. I watched the first half of FUNimation's dubbed version and I think they did a good job on it. So if you haven't seen it or you dropped it when it was being fansubbed I'd say check it out it might not be as bad this time around.
Since there is no trailer for the OVA you'll just have to check out the trailer for the series instead.
