Onechanbara: Samurai Bikini Squad

What a hoot. Although nothing like my favorite Machine Girl or Tokyo Gore Police Onechanbara is another slice of Japanese gore b-movie goodness. Based off a Japanese zombie hack and slash video game series of the same name it features a lovely lady named Aya who kills zombies with a Katana and wearing little more than a bikini and cowboy boots 'n' hat. In the movie version she's teamed up with a pudgy sidekick and another woman with a bit more clothing on but armed with a sawed off double barrel shotgun which seems to have an unlimited ammo count and never needs reloading. In the movie the plot is simple kill the zombie hords while looking for the Doctor who created the zombie mess in the first place and his number one sidekick Saki who is Aya's younger sister.

While this zombie slasher movie isn't any where near as bloody or gory as the other movies I've mentioned it's still pretty much Japanese gore at it's best. So if you're looking for that Hollywood big budget hack and slash you can just move along as this is definitely not it. But for a Japanese b-movie it's actually not that bad a little bit better than I've seen in a while but there is some stuff that even I can't overlook and that's mostly the unlimited ammo sawed-off double-barrel shotgun that never needs reloading and apparently only shots slugs.

I also don't like the sidekick dude just because he's not really even needed. They could have stuck with just the two girls and a revolving cast of soon to be dead extras. Although he sort of redeems himself towards the end when with the help of a zombie kills the doctor.

What I did like, besides Eri Otoguro running around in a bikini, are the fight scenes which I thought for a Japanese b-movie were very well done minus the added cgi effects when Aya and later Saki do their power-up stuff (every time they did that power-up stuff I wanted to sing the theme to Power Rangers) later during the final battle between the two. Sadly the second string girl Reiko was killed in the second to last main zombie fight. I was really hoping that it would be the two ladies who would survive instead of Aya and Mr. Tubs. The best though the was the end fight between the two sisters. In the end it was an OK Japanese b-movie that was fun to watch while not giggle funny like the gory craziness of Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police I definitely didn't think I wasted my time with this rental from Netflix.

You can check out the trailer for the movie here.

BUT WAIT IT HAS A SEQUEL TOO...just found this looking for the trailer for the first one and I didn't even know about this. Looks good and I'll have to find this one as well.
