A post-apocalyptic world with violence, mayhem and just a touch of psycho scifi makes up the world of Dogs: Bullets and Carnage a 4 episode OVA series based on the manga of the same name. The series revolves around four main characters who have their own story told in each of the episodes. All four stories loosely tie into each other as the characters cross paths on their own journeys to find what they are looking for.
This OVA series really is like opening four separate windows into an unknown world where you can take a little look into the crazy drama filled lives of four separate people in that world as they go about their journey to find what they are looking for.
The first window opens into the world of an old retired hitman as he tries to redeem himself by settle his grudge against the person who killed his lover. The killer was his own apprentice who in the end is mortally wounded by another hitman. This episode gives you a bit more background as to what is going on compared to the next one.
The second window opens into the world of an information broker with a bad smoking habit one that finds him being a crazy gun nut if you keep him away from his cigarettes. This story is just about a picture taken by the one eyed information broker and the lengths the mob boss will go to to get it back. While the most action filled it was the least interesting plot wise.
The third window opens into another world of master and apprentice this time the apprentice is a young female with no memory of her life prior to parent's death. Somehow the girl survived the killings and is taken in by the sword welding hitman and taught the ropes of being a killer so that she can take revenge for her parent's murder. This is the story that I like the most of the four as it gave reasons and a good enough of a back story to make you interested in what was driving the characters to do what they were doing.
The fourth and last window opens into a world of a lone drifter looking for a way into the underground to once again exact revenge on those that did him harm. On his journey he encounters a struggle between a young woman and a couple guys at first he ignores it since it's none of his business until the girl's miniature wings are exposed. After rescuing the young winged girl they are ambushed at his apartment where the girl is taken back after he is seemingly killed. However, that's not the case with an ability to regenerate and return from the dead he once again sets off to rescue the winged girl and take his frustrations out on the mob boss. He drags one-eyed cigarette guy along with him as back up and easily rescues the young lady.
With that the windows close and you are left to wonder what exactly it is that you've witnessed and how things will turn out as many questions are left entirely unanswered and leaving the viewer confused. Was it worth it to watch yeah it was OK the animation was pretty good and the action sequences were done really well but it's seriously hampered by the story telling and the emo drama. If it was freely streamed (legally of course) I'd say go for it watch it and decide for yourself if you liked it or not but otherwise this was a pretty mediocre series that can just be skipped entirely.
