Just finished three other animes this week so will be busy blogging about anime the rest of the week and thought I'd start with Sekirei an interesting girl fighter anime that you can't help but like. Again I'll let wiki handle the plot and summary or Sekirei while I lament on the awesomeness (yeah I'd fail at scrabble with that word but whatever) that is Sekirei.
What was first going to be a 26 episode anime got cut in half to a 13 episode anime with a TBC slogan slapped on the end. Hopefully those other 13 episodes will be here soon as we got left with an interesting cliffhanger for those of use not reading the manga. I mean if you're reading the manga then you already know a great deal more than the rest of use and I'm thinking I might just have to look around for the manga to see what happens (I so suck at the waiting I want to know now damnit) in any case back to the anime at hand. The premise of Sekirei is that a bunch of engineered humans called Sekirei are let loose on the town to find their soul mate or Ashikabi after which a grand battle will ensue until the last standing Sekirei is left and they and their Ashikabi will go...go..well they'll go someplace special. The main guy Minato happens to have luck on his side and becomes the Ashikabi to several lovely, well endowed and powerful Sekirei. Lots of jiggling and fighting happens as the ladies not only fight over who is the rightful wife of Minato (with lots of laughs tossed in for good measure) but they begin to fight in what is known as the Sekirei plan (the big fight).
Sekirei is of course chuck full of the fanservice goodness and even in one episode (probably a "hey look what you'll get with the DVDs" marketing ploy) it gets rid of the all annoying magic fog and lets you see the bare bosoms for once and only once as it's right back to the magic fog and other cover ups the next episode. Not only is this a girl fight anime but it's also a huge harem (everyone has freaking harem in this show) anime and it makes up a large part of the plot during this first story arch. Most of the time it's really funny the competition between all the ladies for the attention of the master which keeps the harem part from getting old fast. However as much as that is funny and all I do hope that they don't focus so much on that aspect of the show next season as I want more girl fights and a bit more development of the over all plot of the Sekirie plan and what it's all about.
In the end of course I have to say that Sekirei is not only mindless eye candy for the summer but an enduring fun and entertaining experience that left you wanting more after each episode which is why I say this would be a must buy. Might not happen with the way the US anime industry is heading at the moment but here's hoping that it does anyways.
