Fedup with [adult swim] I watched the second Bleach movie on Saturday instead of tuning into their crap lineup and I must say the movie was ten times better than anything those lame douchebags at WilliamsSt could ever hope to ever dream up. Bunch of losers.
Thankfully the second movie is actually really good and well worth the wait and will be well worth the wait to see it again when it FINALLY gets released here in the states. Anyways much like the filler arches and the first movie Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion takes place outside the time line of the manga and anime and is a self contained story. However, to make the most of this movie you'll have to have been following up to date the anime/manga to understand everything that is going on in the movie. But if you haven't you'll still enjoy it you just wont understand the meaning of everything going on. Of course this means this movie won't see a US release for some time. And I wasn't going to freaking wait that long to watch it.
Brief Summary: Bleach: DDR for short is really a run of the mill pick a person to focus on who isn't part of the main characters and toss in a new bad guy for them to beat the ever living snot out of at the end. Of course this formula works well for Bleach as it did with the first movie. This time the movie focuses on Hitsugaya and his past coming back to haunt him. I don't mind because when he's around Matsumoto can't be to far behind. And you can never have enough Matsumoto. Anyways Hitsugaya's past that comes back to haunt him is one of his old friends who has come back to steal a very powerful Soul Society artifact known as the King's Seal and use it along with Hitsugaya to become the all powerful King of Soul Society. Of course you know that's not going to happen because good ol' Ichigo is going to step in and beat the piss out of some people and save the day. I mean there is a lot more to it than that but honestly that just easily sums it up without giving to many spoilers away. So with that the day is saved and everyone goes home happy and everything is resolved all in a nice two hour time frame. Which is why I like the movies more the anime some times because you get a nice start middle and end with them instead of this cliffhanger stuff that we get with the anime while they wait to catch up with the manga.
My Opinion: I didn't start out as a fan of bleach but I've grown to like it and I've enjoyed watching it and the movies definitely add to that experience as well. This was was really good I thought because it just didn't focus on the main group of characters and it gave a lot of screen time to the back up characters and made them an important part of the film. Kenpachi almost stole the entire show with his antics going all blazes like he did. It's a good character building movie that helps you get more interested in some of the characters who you don't see all that much doing anything more than running around. I missed watching the first movie in theaters because they only played it for two days here in the middle of the week on a bad week (between paydays) but I'm eagerly awaiting for it to be released on DVD so I can get it from Netflix and you can be sure that I'll be doing the same for this movie and for the third one as well. If you're into Bleach this will be something that you'll have to check out. If you're not sure about Bleach do yourself a favor and check this out as it's a great way to get introduced to the franchise even if you won't understand why things are happening you'll still more than likely enjoy what you're watching.
