HELL F*CK YES! Is all I gotta say about that news. Looks like Aniplex will be releasing both movies along with the Parallel Works music videos in July. You know I'm going to be getting these suckers even though it's going to cost an AWESOME price of $100 for both movies. OUCH! But I don't care.
Actually since we now have a BD player at the house I may just wait for the BD version of the movies since the DVDs are ONLY going to be available subbed. It's not a deal breaker for me if it's dubbed or subbed but sometimes I really just like watching and listening and not having to read as well. Plus I think they did a fairly good job on the English dub of the series. But right now the BD
Getting the Parallel Works collection is also really cool but I'd love to see Yoko's music video as well for her Sound Track. Maybe they'll release that as well. One can hope anyway. As if no dub is bad enough the only way to get the movies is through Bandai Entertainment’s website so it may not be available on Netflix. Damn. It also means no is not another less expensive alternative either.
The first movie Gurren Lagann the Movie: Childhood’s End will be available July 1st in two versions. The less expensive single disk version for $30 and the mega cool limited edition two disk version with all the goodies for $50. The second movie Gurren Lagann the Movie: The Lights in the Sky Are Stars will be released on July 30. Again with a $30 single disk version and $50 two disk version with all the goodies.
The goodies in this case are separate 32 page booklets (Japanese program books), postcards, bonus features (don't know what they will be yet but probably textless credits and staff interviews) and the Parallel Works music videos which will be split equally between the two releases.
I just noticed that they have an early bird promotion to save you some money on the DVDs if you pre-order them by May 13 for the first movie and June 11 for the second movie. Order them here.
