The second movie MF: The Wings of Farewell will be released on Febraury 26, 2011 and if we get another 11 month wait for the DVD and subs we wont be able to see the second movie until January of 2012. Ouch, but it'll be worth the wait because the first movie was simply awesome. But until than lets take a look at the first movie.
We all know that many anime movies take a good healthy portion of the series and add parts to glue everything together. I'd hazard to guess that MF: The False Diva is 50/50 on old and new. The bad part about that is that character development gets cut down, changed or entirely eliminated from the movie. Grace, Sheryl and Leon all have different roles in the movie. They know about Ranka Lee and Leon is basically Sheryl's body guard. Grace isn't as evil so far. Oh and YA! for Grace nipples I guess. The stangest part is that Grace and Sheryl are thought to be spies for Galaxy and the Vjara are weapons developed by Galaxy.
The story is progressed smoothly and fast with all the cuts to character development. Ranka's rise to Idol stardom is cut way back. Gone is my favorite Ranka song about Carrots. Also the love triangle between Ranka, Sheryl and Alto is cut down as well. The second battle is set in motion by Sheryl who finds out that Galaxy is being attacked and Frontier is ignoring the SOS calls. Because of this she uses her Credit Card to hire the SMS forces to go and fight the Vjara and save the people of Galaxy.
While the SMS are off kicking major Vjara ass Sheryl perfoms her second "revenge" concert and Ranka shows up to watch. While the two girls are signing they attracted the attention of the Vjara that are back fighting with the SMS. The Vjara jump to frontier in order to snag Ranka and take her back to their home. This leads to the main battle of the movie. Sheryl keeps signing during the battle until Alto saves Ranka and drops her off with Sheryl. Then both girls start to sing. The Vjara are defeated and they retreat and all is well. Until the second movie of course.
What might piss off some viewers though is Michael's death in the series is pretty much erased in the movie to be honest I'm not sure if I like that or not. There are some other changes as well like Sheryl knowing about Ranka's past and is also a part of it instead of being a manufactured Diva like she is in the series. I forgot to mention that Sheryl's first concert is mostly an all new sexier affair than the original.
All in all though I really did like the movie and if you haven't seen the series you'll not miss anything really and if you're a fan of the series there is little that you wont like about the movie. I can't imagine just how good this would look on the big screen though. My computer can only handle the 720p version and that still looked just amazing.
