BOISE -- A former teacher at a Meridian middle school has pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing obscene cartoons depicting child sexual abuse.
Thirty-three-year-old Steven Kutzner pleaded guilty in Boise's U.S. District Court on Wednesday to possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children. Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney's office say investigators found 70 cartoon images of youthful animated characters -- including characters from the TV show, "The Simpsons" -- engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Kutzner, who was a teacher at Lake Hazel Middle School in Meridian, resigned in 2009 after agents served a search warrant at his home.
He faces up to 10 years in a federal prison when he is sentenced on Jan. 5.
The biggest part of this article that scares me the most, due to it's very vague nature, is the use of the term "youthful animated characters" that's actually worse than what Mr. Handley was accused of. Why? Well if you think about just how much of your naughty cartoon folder could be comprised of "youthful animated characters" you see the problem. After all animated characters don't exactly carry ID on them to prove they're of legal age. Also think about this it's noted that he had sexual images of characters from the Simpsons. Now if you simply enter Simpson and sex into Google or Bing image search guess what you just did. Yup congrats you're now just as evil as Mr. Kutzner.
Although it looks like Kutzner came to the attention of authorities in December 2008 after the German Federal Police (GFP) began investigating the distribution of child pornography on a peer-to-peer file sharing network. The GFP contacted HSI who identified Kutzner's IP address as one that had offered a file of child pornography from the German network for download to others in October 2008. So at some point he may have had something else other than just naughty pictures of "youthful animated characters" but the fact remains that he was charged for having the "youthful animated characters" and not something else.-- Source
I don't have all the facts in the case or what happened in court but what I do know is that this with Handley's case sets a very defined president that possession of naughty cartoons that depict "youthfull animated characters" could easily land you in the federal clink. Kind of a scary thought when you consider just how vague that second ruling is. After all who decides what "youthful animated characters" are to begin with.
My own last little thought on the whole matter is if possession of "youthful animated characters" is illegal then why are they not arresting and charging the people who created the content in the first place or those selling subscriptions to sites that host this material? Is it a double standard or is just a lame witch hunt by those in charge that will hope that people they charge will just plead guilty in plea deals so that the law enforcement can put another notch in their belt as a win for protecting children when in all likely hood they didn't do anything more than waste tax payers money and send a harmless person to prison for liking cartoon porn when they could be spending that same money going after people who are trading in real child porn and endangering real children. I think that would be a much better use of their time and energy.
So why is there a picture of the lovely Yoko from Gurren Lagann? Because I could and honestly I don't care for naughty Simpson pictures myself.
