Well well it looks like we got an early present from Halo as we not only got the second part of The Package but the first part as well and on a consecutive weekend instead of next week. Of course that means we got to finish off the two part episode but end up finding out that it's combined still a pretty short episode. But hello bombshell spoiler in the second part.
So I'll just cut to the chase and tell you that the mega big plot devise in this episode is that the Package which we didn't know much about in the first part turns out to be none other than Dr. Halsey, yes that Dr. Halsey the person responsible for the entire Spartan project. She's a lot younger in this version making her a MILF even if she was only a pseudo-mom to the Spartans.
OK so this second part takes off right where we left them charging into a butt load of Covenant forces. No surprise there that they fight hard and fight well running and gunning their way through the ship to retrieve the package. Some of the running and gunning was a bit too flashy with the jumping and gun grabing out of thin air add in the few helmet cam shots here and there and the thing just goes a little bit over board.
To hault their losing streak the commander of the ship starts disengaging the sections of the ship to deep space in an attempt to get rid of the invaders regardless of his own troopers' lives. The Spartan's fight their way through the horde but Fred decides to stay behind to fight some Elite warriors to buy John and Kelly some time to make it to the package. However John and Kelly find them selves just a bit short and floating in space. Kelly grabs onto John and tosses him up to the remaining ship section. Leaving Fred and Kelly behind John has to carry out the mission to retrieve the package. When John finally finds what he is looking for he realizes that it's Dr. Halsey and is surprised to see her.
Freed from cryo-sleep John and the Dr. search for a way to get off the ship and run into one of the leaders of the Elites. John unloads his assault fire at the Elite but is unable to do anything before running out of ammo. The Elite then tosses John an electrosword and they do a song and dance routine exchanging blows until the Elite is able to disarm John.
With the Elite about to finish off John the commander of the ship skuttles the rest of the unnecessary parts of the ship including the part where the Elite, John and Dr Halsey are in order to jump into slipspace and leave them behind to die only to turn around and rescue the Elite warrior before he can do anything. John and the Dr. left to their own devices decide to look for an escape and find it in a small shuttle. Leaving the exploding ship behind the shuttle is soon attacked by a small group of fighters and in an unarmed shuttle the pair look to be doomed once again. Thankfully Kelly and Fred had the same idea and had stolen a pair of fighters and saved John and Dr. until the drop ship re-appeared to pick them all up.
A little boohoohoo about the lost Spartans and the short but action packed episode was over. I still think it's still one of the most stunning looking episode of the series and time will tell if it stays that way but I think the second half wasn't nearly as good as the first half mostly because it just looked like it was too well set up to work in all the extended universe stuff that has been in books yet still seems out of place. Still it's really stunning to watch and hello Nurse...er I mean Dr. So it looks like we'll get the next episode on January 2, 2010.
