A great way to finish any good anime is to absolutely kill every last mother... at the end, take no prisoners everybody must go. Well save for one or two cast members who will live on to fight another day. And that's exactly how Blassreiter ends with just about everyone dead at the end save for one lady and her adopted brother. The good thing about this show is you don't have to feel guilty about watching it on youtube as this was another in the short list of official company youtube shows that have been popping up lately. It was also available on crunchyroll which I just barely signed up for to watch videos there (in case I forget to bring my videos with me) since they currently have more legal anime shows to watch as well.
The good thing about watching anime on youtube and Crunchyroll besides that it's legal, free and guilt free is that it's released at the same time so no waiting months or years to legally watch some good anime. I definitely hope more companies take this approach to releasing new anime shows. Now if the DVD releases would keep up as well that would be pretty handy as well but currently they are not. I mean I still haven't heard a word about getting Tower of Druaga DVDs in North America.

Back to the actual anime show well to be honest this wasn't the most stellar or anime shows this year. It's kind of interesting half way though not only did the plot change but the fanservice changed as well. It went from a butt fanservice show to a Boobs fanservice show. Kinda funny actually if you think about it but hey it Gonzo after all. It wasn't just the fanservice change that helped out the second part of the series but for some reason it seemed like there was a different team behind the show as the entire plot and action went up a notch as well. It was like an entirely different show.
The first part revolved around a moto racer who gets infected by a disease that turns humans into these crazy looking CGI monsters called Amalgams who like nothing better than to run around killing things. Chasing after him is a group of special police officers called Xat. One after another the members of Xat (minus the hot chick of course) are also turned into amalgams as well. The leader of Xat gets a bonus of getting to nail the other hot chick (the one behind the scenes helping to make even more amalgams) so with the destruction of Xat and almost all of its members the second part of the story starts.
The second part is the kick ass part lots more interesting things happen and a much better flushed out plot takes place. So the former leader of Xat is now the general of a bunch of amalgam solders who go crazy attacking things and heading for a show down with the Church. We also get a lot more of the back story and why we should even care about any of this in the first place. Turns out the Church was trying to develop a nanomachine that could cure people's ailments instead it creates the amalgams out of dead humans go figure. In any case the killing of more people happens and at the end just about everyone is dead the problem is solved and the anime was able to take a couple potshot at the US as well.
As far as I'm concerned it was only a good show it definitely wasn't great but then it wasn't horrible either. The CGI was OK the fights were pretty awesome especially for the last half but the fact that almost every one had to die is a pretty lame plot device I think. If you can make it through the first half you're golden. Or just skip that part entirely if you want to. What ever the case check it out on youtube or crunchyroll for free and if it ever does get a DVD release here in the states it might be worth renting as well. Some people in comments left on youtube are asking about a second season and I for one hope there won't be another one.
