I'll admit that in the end Burarara!! wasn't what I thought it would be but that isn't a bad thing as it ended surprising me with the story and characters. I should have expected that really considering who was responsible for the series.
The story revolves around the strange citizens of Ikebukuro and who everyone in the city is part of a larger scheme. One man is on a path to create a war between the three major factions of the city. While he is doing that others are looking for something important that they lost and others are looking for love and to be loved. In the middle of all this are three friends all a different leader of one of the cities main gangs. None of them know each other's secrets and this of course causes trouble and makes it easy for that one man to manipulate them into doing things that they truely don't want to do.
Is that cryptic enough for you? Hope so. It would take a very long time to actually describe every thing that is going on in Durarara!! because there are many side stories going on that make up the small but important details of the main plot. I'd have to say that in the grand scheme of it all this is really an action packed love story. Sounds strange but really that's what I got out of it.
You owe it to yourself to watch Durarara!! if you want something different in your Anime watching diet. There isn't any thing else like it other than Baccano! but if you didn't like the gangster story line of that series you'll like the current setting of this one. Since Baccano! was licensed I'm really hoping that the same will happen to Durarara!! as well. I believe there is also going to be an extra DVD only episode soon as well if I remember the rumors as well so I'm hoping for more hottie headless biker.
